Team Penske's Helio Castroneves continued to show form as the "man to beat" in Sunday's Indianapolis 500, leading Friday's traditional final "Carb Day" practice session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Castroneves, who will start from the pole in the Memorial Day classic, also won today's annual pit stop competition, another traditional event leading up to the "500".
All three Team Penske entries were quick in today's one-hour session, with Will Power second-fastest on the day and Ryan Briscoe fifth. One of the stars of qualifying, KV Racing's Mario Moraes, was third overall, with 2005 race winner, Dan Wheldon, fourth. The 2009 Indianapolis 500 starts at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday, May 24, with live television coverage beginning at noon on ABC.
