Robert Doornbos
# 6

Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing

Biography

Robert Doornbos' first sporting love was tennis, competing at a semi-professional level in the Netherlands. But all that changed when he visited the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix as a guest of the Williams F1 team as a teenager.

Following the advice of former Indy car champion Jacques Villeneuve, Doornbos traded his tennis shoes for racing boots and began his rapid rise on the European racing ladder. He eventually reached Formula One, where he made 11 starts.
Doornbos enjoys golf, tennis, skiing and watersports. He is an avid watch collector who speaks Dutch, English, Italian and German.
