Raphael Matos, or "Rafa" as most people call him, has diligently worked to earn his shot behind the wheel of an IndyCar Series car.
Like many Brazilian drivers before him, Matos got his start in karting, winning five championships in Brazil as a teenager. He would go on to put together an impressive driving résumé, winning championships in Chevrolet Formula Junior, Formula Dodge, Star Mazda Pro Series and Champ Car Atlantics. In 2008, he captured the Firestone Indy Lights championship for Andretti Green Racing/AFS Racing, notching three wins and 13 top-10 finishes.
Matos enjoys running, cycling and weight lifting.
