Dan Wheldon
# 4

Panther Racing

Biography

Don't let Dan Wheldon's effervescent personality and reputation as a jokester belie his ability as a race car driver.

After scoring an IndyCar Series-record six victories, including the 89th Indianapolis 500 for Andretti Green Racing in 2005, Wheldon wanted to stay ahead of his competition. So he left what appeared to be a perfect situation to join team owner Chip Ganassi's operation in 2006. He was an instant success, driving to victory over Helio Castroneves by just a few feet in the season opener at Homestead-Miami Speedway and tying for the series championship.

The week before the 2008 season finale, Wheldon came to terms on a multi-year deal to drive for Panther Racing, where he broke into the IndyCar Series in 2002.
While Wheldon is blazing fast on the track, he is fastidious away from the asphalt. He admits to having a "shoe fetish," owning several hundred pairs of shoes and his clothes have to be "just right."
