Speed always has been part of Buddy Rice's life. The son of a former drag racer, Rice came to the IndyCar Series in 2002 after a running in the Toyota Atlantic Championship, where he won the 2000 series title for DSTP Motorsports. He started and finished second in his first-ever IndyCar Series race for Cheever Racing.
He played baseball at Shadow Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., but he and his father made the decision to pursue racing full time.
Fast cars are part of Rice's life off the racetrack as the hot-rod enthusiast owns several classic cars, including a 1949 Mercury, 57 Chevy hardtop, 57 Chevy Nomad, 55 Chevy, 29 Sedan, a full-sized customized Chevrolet truck and a 1967 Chevy 2 Nova.
